October is a month dedicated worldwide to the cause of fighting breast cancer – a disease that affects millions of women, but also thousands of families. It is a time when society, medical professionals and companies committed to human care join forces to promote prevention, early detection and support for affected women.

Today, medicine offers more and more treatment options, but the most powerful weapon remains early diagnosis.

October - World Breast Cancer Awareness month, Wooden Spoon initiative

What does October symbolise?

World Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a global initiative that began in 1985 in the United States, with the aim of promoting early detection of the disease through preventive examinations, self-examination and raising awareness. During this month, millions of people around the world wear the pink ribbon as a symbol of empathy and support for all women affected by the diagnosis.

More often than we think

Over 4,000 new cases are diagnosed in Bulgaria every year, and one in eight women may face this diagnosis in her lifetime.

The reasons are different – genetics, hormonal balance, lifestyle, nutrition, stress, as well as environmental factors. But one of the most common mistakes that many women make is to ignore the first signals – small changes that often seem insignificant.

Wooden Spoon Initiative: Share the care – give it to a loved one

Small steps that save lives

Prevention does not always mean complex examinations and medical procedures. Sometimes it starts with the small habits that we build every day.

  • Regular self-examination – once a month, preferably a week after the monthly cycle, every woman can do a short self-examination in front of the mirror. This only takes a few minutes, but can help detect changes that require a doctor’s consultation.
  • Preventive examinations – in October, free mammogram campaigns are held in many cities in Bulgaria. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of and encourage our loved ones to do the same.
  • Conscious choices in everyday life – from the food we eat to the cosmetic products we use. The skin is our largest organ, and through it we absorb ingredients from deodorants, creams, and perfumes every day. It is good to choose products without aluminum, parabens, and synthetic fragrances, which can affect hormonal balance.

Time for a change: care that comes from the inside and outside

The modern woman lives dynamically – between work, family, caring for children, and home. We often leave self-care last, because there is always “something more important.”

But health does not wait. Sometimes care begins with a simple decision – not to procrastinate. And if October can remind us of anything, it is precisely this: to slow down, take a breath, and pay attention to our own body.

Share the care – give it to a loved one

This year, Wooden Spoon dedicates October to care as a shared gesture of love and attention. Under the motto “Share the care – give it to a loved one”, we invite you to do something small but significant.

When you purchase a natural deodorant, you receive a second one as a gift – for your mother, friend, sister or colleague. A kind gesture that brings more than freshness – it carries a message of care, prevention and conscious choice.

Natural deodorant from Wooden Spoon - campaign for October and breast cancer prevention

Why deodorant?

Because deodorant is a product that every woman uses every day, often without thinking about what it contains. And many traditional deodorants contain aluminum salts, synthetic fragrances and preservatives that can irritate the skin and affect the hormonal system.

By choosing a natural deodorant made from pure ingredients, we do much more than just feel fresh – we show that we respect our body and choose conscious care.

Body care starts with what we put on our skin every day:

  • No aluminum salts – they don’t clog pores and allow the body to breathe and regulate its temperature naturally.
  • No parabens and synthetic fragrances – gentle on the skin, no artificial preservatives that can affect hormonal balance.
  • No alcohol and petroleum derivatives – they don’t dry out or irritate the sensitive underarm area.
  • With natural oils and plant extracts – coconut oil, baking soda, shea butter and essential oils that provide natural protection and freshness throughout the day.

Pink ribbon and conscious care

Sometimes change doesn’t come with big decisions. It starts with one morning, one decision and one better choice. When we give the same product to a woman we love, we’re actually telling her:

“You’re important to me. Take care. Love yourself.”

The pink ribbon is a symbol of hope, of support, of a community of millions of women who have been or are going through a breast cancer diagnosis.

But it is also a reminder to each of us that taking care of our health starts today, not tomorrow.

Let October be the month in which:

  • We sign up for a preventive check-up.
  • We do self-examination.
  • We choose cleaner products.
  • We share the message of care and support

Together we can do more

Every woman deserves to be healthy, calm and confident in herself. Let this month be an occasion to remind ourselves that health is not a given, but a choice we make every day – with love, attention and awareness.

Share the care – give it to a loved one.

Sometimes the most valuable gift is precisely the care that comes from the heart.
